so...they are against healthcare because -as reagan said- it is a way controlling people and taking away their freedom- am I right?
Ok, this is my take on the whole "gov't takeover!" thingy:
The less gov't is involved the more control smaller entities have on governing their own communities. Think of it as a bit like a community's sovereign right to decide what is important to them in terms of education, law enforcement, health, etc.
This is all fine and dandy, assuming that the community members are actually ALL benefitting from this. What happens (in reality) is that those smaller entities, such as states and districts, are lead and governed by people and bodies which only represent a certain range of demographics. The other demographics then become disadvantaged, or even exploited...and now they need protection. Who will protect these minority groups who have the least say in anything going on in their communities? WHo get the bad end of the stick, and are simultaneously blamed for their disadvantaged position?
They federal gov't. They come in and say, you have to take care of all students, of all patients, of all demographics.
The thing is, most people would prefer to have more control over the decisions made which affect their communities. But, when entire demographics of people are left out of that equation and have no way of significantly affecting their standard of living (except by LEAVING their community), then their only hope is in the feds to enforce some type of regulatory power.
And that my friends is why majorities of black people like gun regulation, healthcare reform, education reform, etc. Because that is our only hope for enjoying the benefits of such things, rather than consistently getting the bad end of the stick. We were never intended to be a part of the gov'ts plan for control. We weren't intended to have control over anything, not even our bodies. That is why the system doesn't work very well automatically for us. That is why we need protection. That is also why people of other demographics can sometimes fail to relate, or understand why such changes would need to happen. They see it as a takeover of their control. Well, they just didn't realize how badly they were managing things...and how could they? They are not the ones feeling the brunt of the consequences of bad management.
And I am only talking about black people because that is the demographic I am most comfortable representing, but the same/similar could be said for others.
