Not exactly the coffee expected in this thread, but
In the last century an attractive fair-complection African could pass for white with some assistance. When my father would see an attractive "high yella," he would say that that is the way he likes his cofee black with some cream. I always thought that was dsrespectful, but I didn't bring my discomfort up.
One day we were driving in Downtown when I saw a magnificent, tall, muscular, coal black man. Out of my mouth poppedm
"That's the way I like my coffee, strong and black." My father never made another comment about "High Yallers" again.
