Since we're an internationally intense group, I thought I'd throw this one up for discussion. 

I'm planning my holiday menus (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, New Years Day) now.  Everything is pretty well accounted for, except for New Years Eve. 

Care to share any New Years Eve/Day traditions, food, etc. to break this family out of the sandwiches and chips and dips routine?  We're doing the cabbage and black eye peas for New Years Day, but I could always sneak something else in.

For as long as I can remember it was always pork & kraut on New Years Eve. 

Mom (or later, I) always did the turkey, homemade stuffing, candied sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes/gravy, brussel sprouts traditional thing for Thanksgiving & Christmas.

Easter was Ham, pickled eggs, potatoes...etc.

Last year after mom passed I kind of muddled through it, ate at my MIL's and was just glad to be done with it all.

Not really sure what I'm doing this year yet.

You do eat pork even though you're Jewish, right?

If you do, I think you should cook a ham for New Year's Eve and eat leftover ham and use the ham bone in the black eyed peas for New Year's Day.

We often eat fillet of beef on New Year's Eve. We might also eat eggs and caviar and slices of salmon on bread

Usually Australian New Year's Day consists of a barbecue of some sort and salad. At Christmas time we do have turkey but it is served cold because it is too hot to eat hot food. That is for my family anyway.

My mum always made us leave the house before midnight and watch the fireworks. Then on the way back in my cousin had to be the first in the house, and take a lump of coal in with him. Because he was a dark haired man. Or something. I never really understood what all that was about.
