Having a smoky night since the air's still full of firework smoke here, so a selection of island whiskies (with the exception of Penderyn Celt, a rather nice Welsh one finished in Islay quarter casks). I've had a few drams of the Laphroaig 10 yo now, and I think I must be missing something. The peat is nice and very pungent, and it's quite sweet, but I'm not getting much else from it, compared to the two Bowmore whiskies I've had (No.1 and 12 yo) - they aren't as strongly peated as the Laphroaig but to my taste have a bit more going on. I like both equally, the 12 is smoother and more balanced, the No.1 is zingier, the seaspray and citrus are more pronounced. On to Talisker Skye and 10 yo now, then Highland Park 12 yo and Dragon Legend to finish up. The fuzzy head is going to be totally worth it.
