Yes. I would much rather drive than fly, although I think I would probably use a train for very long journeys. We don't really have the opportunity to drive these great distances that the Americans and Europeans do. Even driving from the top of Scotland to the bottom of England can probably be done in the day.

I prefer to watch the movie "Airplane" everytime before I fly somewhere.  :M

I'm serious and quit calling me Shirley.  :P

I don't watch much tv and so haven't seen much of those air crash shows. Have seen airport security shows though. At airports I always get called aside for the more thorough search of my bag and they run that hand-held scanner over me. I find airports easier to deal with than shops because at shops the way people move around is more chaotic.

I am not afraid of going on planes. Have experienced severe turbulence once and I found it hilarious while other people were screaming heh. It isn't an option to take other forms of transport from Western Australia to other states as to get there by car, for example, would take more than a few days.

he was extremely shaken even after arriving at the base

I had a similar experience landing in Rhine-Main airbase in Germany. We landed on an alternative runway with a 20 knot tailwind. We hit the runway so hard that the overhead bins poped open ans shit fell on top of people, and some ceiling pannels came off too. There were a couple of minor injuries. :yikes:

im scared shitless when on planes... i dont know what it is. i really dont know what about planes scare me they just DO! but turbulance has no effect on it. raising and dropping in hight like takeoff and landing just causes heart attacks for me [not literally]

awwwwww

next time, try to think about this
whenever the plane takes a little "drop" (they may sometimes fly into "pockets" of thin air, and drop a little, totally normal) the testicle fluid move around (similar to when on a swing-set) and makes peoples balls tickle

me and my brother laughed so much at that, that thought. the plane made a slight drop, we felt the balltickle, and quickly looked around at everyone else around us. men in suits, drinking their coffee, trying to appear as if their balls werent tickling :D

a ferrie up on the north coast of british columbia canada sank a while back... it was majorly underloaded as it was not tourist season, roughly one staff member to every 2 people. only two people died but they have yet to find the bodys or figure out how... maybe they jumped ship or something weve no clue.

There was a ferry disaster in the 90's, when the Swedish ferry Estonia sank.

estonia and the scandinavian star, both sank, and both made for quite horrific losses, altho estonia wins there if i remember correctly.

it reminds me of these overloaded ferries in the third world...

hell, everything's overloaded over there. a car crash in india, and you got like 30 injured and 14 dead

The Scandinavian Star didn't sink, it burned.

litteral-aspie
your right tho. and i knew, cus ive seen docus. i get sloppy sometimes.
its a disaster, with lots of losses :]

Why not I remember watching one of the Airport movies the night before back when I still flew. I don't fly now because of all the people and security, I would go up in a private  plane any day

its problematic to you?

im usually fine w airports, even big crowded chaotic ones. i just... disconnect somehow. in fact i am quite effective in airports

Me too, but it's an acquired skill. I tend to have more problems when stuck at something like Frankfurt or Heathrow. The gates are just too crowded, especially at Frankfurt.

Turbulence I've come to terms with. Still hate it but recently I've travelled enough to ignore it if it's not too severe.

very possible. compared to most people i know, ive flown a lot of times, with an average of once a back and forth to spain, often including various landings in europe, usually denmark, germany and/or france.
and yes, if the gates are way too crowded, my autism tends to kick in, and i get aggitated

turbulence i feel similarily also. if its a normal humpy-bumpy-ness i know what its about, and its fine. if it gets REALLY rocky, i find myself wishing it would calm the hell down :D

i still hate when the wing wobbles
but ive been told by a pilot that the wing is flexible enough to touch the floor (when grounded of course..)
and all logic says the wing _must_ wobble, or it would snap off

I don't watch much tv but have to admit air crash investigation is interesting.

The last flight i ever had was Luton-Gibraltar and it was just before 9/11.   I have not flown since.  Too chicken shit.  Never ever will again.

So i guess i am just stranded here on this desolate island.  I suppose i could sail,  and i am from sea-fearing naval folk :M

I haven't flown anywhere in years and might never do again in my life. Definitely won't be any time soon

Customs and security and all that shit

No thanks
