California Gov. Jerry Brown is vetoing legislation requiring police to obtain a court warrant to search the mobile phones of suspects at the time of any arrest. The Sunday veto means that when police arrest anybody in the Golden State, they may search that person’s mobile phone — which in the digital age likely means the contents of persons’ e-mail, call records, text messages, photos, banking activity, cloud-storage services, and even where the phone has traveled.
Fuck the police.
Michigan State Police (MSP) may be using portable devices to secretly extract personal information such as text messages, photos, video, and GPS data from cell phones during routine stops.
I don't keep much on my phone because of shit like this.
Well think of this. They search a phone not yours but someone you emailed so your in the contacts, regardless of what it was about you are under suspicion and in the days of homeland security and the drug war anything can set the wheels of big government in motion to roll right over you.

Before anyone says that it's only if your arrested they can arrest you for anything if they want to and it doesn't mean they won't drop the charges later. In the mean time they can have access to anything on your phone, personal potentially embarrassing things. I am surprised Jerry Brown vetoed it being the liberal he is, but then again liberals seem to want to control people as much as conservatives do these days. I am sure someone will come up with a wipe app for phones soon that will take care of things before you give up your phone.
