An illusion of what?

safety. people tempted to steal a chocolate bar, will stop when they see those "gates"

Who is under the illusion of safety? Are you saying the candy thief is detered by the exit alarm, or the grocer thinks he is? Either way, how is that an illusion of safety?

it is "a trick"
the store is telling you "you cant shoplift, cus an alarm will surely go off", when in reality it wont.

No, the store is telling it might go off, when it reality it might. Of course there's some items which can be assumed won't but combined with security cameras it's a real deterrent. Someone tempted to steal a candy has to concern more about the clerk since they're kept near the register. It would be a trick or an illusion if there were in fact no security tags. Still not getting the safety of whose illusion.

but there _are no security tags_ :D
thats what im telling you. im not doubting that the tag WORKS - where it is actually employed: in cd-stores, book-stores, clothing-stores etc. but in grocery stores are _are no such tags_, but the scanners are still there:D

im NOT saying the system/invention in itself is an illusion
im saying it is an illusion when only HALF of the system is implemented - as an empty deterrent

Maybe the selection of products in the grocery stores here are different.

well, thats obvious, since we are in different countries :D

i allready talked to junkies who will simply stroll out with bags of stolen groceries. theyll buy a token item, and simply use "misdirection" to leave w the rest of the goods.
altho i can never be 100% sure about those "gates", cus... you know... thats their point :D and if it wasnt for those "gates" there, i would sneak off w tons of stuff, but all logic tells me there will be no alarm whatsoever.

friends of mine also made it into a hobby to rip those stickers off, in the stores where they actually use them (cds, dvds, computer games, clothes), again using "misdirection", to simply stroll out of the store.

myself i sat down at the public library w a dinosaur book i REALLY wanted, and i used a sharp key, to carefully cut off the little metal tag stickered on. worked wonders. didnt even have to hide, just sit in the open, and carve on the book, nobody suspects a thing, cus everyone minds their own business.
shame on me! :D

I find those things inside tools and things I am fixing sometimes they are every where.  The thing to do with them if you shop at a small store that does not deactivate them peel them off carefully then leave them on the ground outside the doors of one that does.  They stick to shoes and set off the alarms as the people move through the scanners :2thumbsup:
