Just got back from our annual anniversary trip, #28 this time. Drove up to and stayed in Jackson NH at a lodge that we stayed in during our honeymoon. It looked a tad run down, but, was still clean and comfortable. Ate out and did a lot of walking. Next night we drove thru our old stomping grounds and visited an independent book store run by a good friend and his wife. Of course I bought 2 books!
Headed up north to Oxford Maine and visited the Casino that was built there. Thought we might eat at the restaurant it had, but, as soon as we walked in the door, we were hit in the face by a wall of sound, loud music, very dim lights, and the whistle and dings of all the slot machines and the view of hordes of elderly people either gazing in rapt wonder as they played the slots or sitting around in their wheelchairs and electric carts yakking. We used the rest rooms and then split. Found ourselves a really nice inn/B&B in Poland Springs. Very comfortable and peaceful by a lake that had some Loons swimming around in it. And miracle of miracles, they served a home made artisan pizza for guests for supper. Along with a bottle of wine!
Which we enjoyed immensely after a long walk around the shoreline. Since today was crappy, rainy, misty and raw, we decided to come home, but not before driving around and seeing the changes the years have wrought since we left there in 2011.
