I broke a light bulb with my head at work :tard:  I was on my stilts and stepped backwards hitting it with the back of my head, at least it wasn't on ,  and no it wasn't the first time this has happened

Read, read more, and more other stuff.

Came up with a bit of a novel idea for making alpha-substituted tryptamines from tryptophan

(Hell-Vollhard-Zelinzki rxn using catalytic PBr3, mol. eq. Br2 to halogenate the alpha position of tryptophan (or 5-HTP if serotonin analogs were aimed for, or more interestingly, alkylate that hydroxyl first on 5-HTP), followed by displacement of halide by a tosylate ester, such as, for ex. AMT, methyl tosylate, then decarboxylation of the tryptophan to (alpha-alkyl)tryptamine.

Methyl tosylate is pretty poisonous stuff, but then again, it wouldn't be a good idea to breathe/get splashed by Br2 or phosphorus tribromide either. Although probably much less likely to prove lethal.

I think it should work, certainly plan to give it a shot. I love AMT, cracking psychedelic/entactogen material for me personally, although some people find it rough, and its known to be a bit of a gutbuster for many especially at higher levels. Quite variable as to peoples response to dosage also, but for those who it seems to agree with, seems to be well liked.

Swept floors and did some general dusting of things. Watched an episode of Cosmos and realised the world desperately needs a new Carl Sagan. Posted here.

Did some deep cleaning around the house since everyone was out for the day

Bah I derped with my idea. Amine would need protecting certainly. And given the mechanism of the Hell-Volhard-Zellinski, Not sure if it would be amenable to protect the amine prior to reaction, amongst other things.

I need to dig out my ebooks on protecting groups and do some digging, and some scheming.

I replaced three lightbulbs in my apartment with the energy-efficient ones my boss gave me.

This week I had to do some frenetic re-arranging of piles to have the new TV and internet access installed.  I set a goal that by tomorrow I would go through the 3 clothes baskets I put by PA's bed.  Accomplished.  Result: trash and thrift store donations were accumulated.

Had a clearing of the air after a bit of a tiff with PA.

Clearing space and clearing the air, a day well spent.

Watched several episodes of Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett starring in the title role. Brett's is the finest Holmes to date, IMHO.

Now that we have BBC America, I'm Dr. Whoing  Dr. Who.

Translation - since you have to take DW as you find him, rapid speech with the occasional heavy accent and convoluted story lines, I just watch him for enjoyment.  I'm able to get 10 or 15 minutes or more here and there and just enjoy.
