Thanks for sharing. Yeah, I think I go through phases of wanting to disclose, but when I deeply think it through, it somehow feels more stressful than keeping it hidden!

Most people are OK with quirks, habits and sensitivities. As long as they don't get the name autism. You might get away quite well with telling how some things really irk you at work.

It's the one thing where removing Asperger as a separate dx will do harm. Disclosure.

Funny, btw, how you can get away with things if you don't have a label.
:indeed:

I don't understand what your sentence means Odeon? Could you elaborate or rewrite?

Telling people you have Asperger's will make them think of you as a nerd but telling you are autistic will make them think you are retarded. People are ignorant about these things. So removing Asperger as a separate dx is a problem if you want to disclose your dx, IMHO.

Did I manage to explain it better?

There is always the option of just telling them Asperger's  anyway like they will really know what it means it's also still in wide use.  I personally don't tell people much of anything about it as they take any sort of mental heath issue as your crazy

Telling about the things that bother you the most, without mentioning Aspergers or Autism probably is the safest way to disclose something of what is hard for you in life.

When I do say things that is how I frame it.  Sorta like 'I really don't like crowds' or asking people not to crowd you when they get too close they understand that better anyway

Thanks Odeon. And Parts and Hyke. Yeah, this all helps reassure me I was right! It's all stressful! :P

Telling people you have Asperger's will make them think of you as a nerd

Not necessarily. Some people don't know about it, and some are very misinformed.

Shoveled snow off the walks and most of the driveway and cleaned it off the cars

Spent 5 minutes and 37 seconds playing telephone "guess my number" before I reached a human.  Still didn't get what I wanted.

Then made another phone call and found out the PR is not in the data base for the agency that handles disabilities.  They know her name, but she's not there, not by name, birthdate or social security number.  They will call back.

Sounds more like a quick bitch.

I had seven phone calls from the school today to tell me that school would be delayed tomorrow. It will be about seven to twelve degrees below zero with twenty to forty miles per hour winds (= quite dangerous to be outside) after a couple of inches of new snow while they are trying to start the buses.

Ya think they will run on time - fuck NO!

One call would have been sufficient.

Ghandi: Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.

The end result of life's daily pain and suffering, trials and failures, tears and laughter, readings and listenings is an accumulation of wisdom in its purest form.

True, of course, but I was simply trying to make a point about the varying degrees of disclosure.

I took the mini for its second service this morning.  My 'courtesy car' is a nice 2 seater sporty coupe.  The nice man at BMW said last time I had a courtesy car off them I managed to return it with more petrol than when I received it.  He said it was so rare it was noteworthy and he had made a note to give me the best car for my second service.

I've spent the day at the cinema, preparing for the festival opening night. Now screening the opening feature.

Got kids out of the door, went to see a surgeon, or rather, waited for a long long time, with good coffee btw. Had a five minute chat with a surgeon, five minute chat with his assistant and spent five minutes on getting my blood drawn.
Bought catfood and nine pairs of black seamless socks on the way back home. When I missed the bus bought some yellow tomatoes and "pain au chocolat" too.

Called someone to cancel an appointment for this afternoon.

I need a wee bit of time without humans before the kids come home from school.

Worked on decorations till deep in the night. Went to bed when the day wasn't too young anymore.
Woke up, and woke kids.
Got kids out of the door, in good spirits.
Had breakfast too, real breakfast. While handing first presents to the youngest.

Book with electron-microscopic pictures was the biggest hit, I think.
