Moods and preferred music to enter ears?
I totally agree with your take on the "Kind of Blue" album. Only rarely has such a masterpiece been created. While the early sixties and late fifties seemed to be a turning point, with his band changing every few weeks, his exploration was in high gear.
Jumping forward into the Woodstock era, he lost most of his fan base and even his band members, when he went totally electric. BUT, it was through him exploring those murky waters that brought him a whole new generation of dedicated fans. Then another generation of fans finds out that he has been doing this since the forties and still going only increased the "mystery" of his journey.
I had blinders on when it came to jazz during the early seventies, but as I entered the nineties, I was wanting to catch up, especially with all the electric noise he made at Fillmore and various places over Europe.
I have been a fan of QOTSA for a good while and I think this posting you just made might one of their better efforts. I can tell you that it fucking rocks when cranked up. Much better recording than we usually have from this bunch.
For me it is the Dr. John albums I just bought.
