I've never had a fig. What are they like?

Do Fig Newtons give an accurate impression of the taste of fresh figs?
Thank you, QV and Jack. Fresh fig? Um, looked for ripe ones a couple of times in late Summer but none. I thought. But oinky doinky, the fig tree lost quite a bit of her leaves and tadaa.. found 11 of them. Just overlooked them earlier or maybe due to warm-ish weather as of late they riped a bit further.I tend to make a nice dessert with them.. by peeling of their skin and 'blender' them with honey and a pinchlet of salt. Served with quark/soft curd cheese. Could go gay.. and drop a fresh leave of mint on it..
I can do upside down chocolate moo things!
