15 companies that serve you 'wood'
« on: September 19, 2011, 03:19:13 PM »
The recent class-action lawsuit brought against Taco Bell raised questions about the quality of food many Americans eat each day.

Chief among those concerns is the use of cellulose (wood pulp), an extender whose use in a roster of food products, from crackers and ice creams to puddings and baked goods, is now being exposed. What you’re actually paying for – and consuming – may be surprising.

Cellulose is virgin wood pulp that has been processed and manufactured to different lengths for functionality, though use of it and its variant forms (cellulose gum, powdered cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, etc.) is deemed safe for human consumption, according to the FDA, which regulates most food industry products.  The government agency sets no limit on the amount of cellulose that can be used in food products meant for human consumption.

(Note: Humans are unable to digest cellulose since we lack the appropriate enzymes to break it down. This is a food adulterant and another example of the wholly corrupt nature of the federal agency responsible for food safety but continues to prove itself more concerned with corporate profit.)

Just so happens, I don't really eat anything listed on there.

But really, there are way bigger issues in the food industry than indigestible wood pulp IMO.

Like... fructose?

Fructose is a normal part of diet and easily digestible. Cellulose is good if you are a termite and not bad if you happen to ingest a bit while camping. Listing a net weight for food products that have had non food (for humans anyway) fluffers added is inherently deceitful IMO.

Yes, while Cellulose should never be put in food products, neither should High Fructose Corn Syrup.

You see, Fructose has similar long-term effects to the human body that Ethanol has. Glucose can be metabolized by all cells, but Fructose, just like Ethanol, is metabolized exclusively by the liver. Think about that for a minute.

What's so bad about cellulose?  Every single plant cell has a cell wall made of cellulose; it's a significant component of all plant-based foods, including apples, cabbage, nuts and carrots, and it's part of the indigestible stuff that we shit out.  There might be a problem if they were adding lignin to food, since it's present in woody tissues and largely absent from the edible parts of plants, but cellulose is a normal part of the human diet, even if it's indigestible.

I knew having a zoophilic ancestor would pay off.  :zoinks:

Seriously though , fructose is fruit sugar isn't it?....or am I getting it confused with something else?  :tard:

My liver works fine so I don't consider that to be a problem. I will continue eating fruit. I used to put hard drugs in my body and that didn't kill me so I doubt that eating fruit or drinking coffee will.
