When you have a baby you quickly learn that you don't have to actually DO anything to make them cry.  Just wait a few minutes.

yes but still, when it starts to cry, the best way to handle it, isnt to have actors scream threats at each others for 5 minutes, thats why i wondered.

True.  That isn't exactly "parenting".

You don't plan the shot in a way that shows the baby, in that case. You cut to it for closeups and reactions but use a doll when possible, adding sound effects to have the audience think that it's an actual baby. It's not just a question of parenting but a way to avoid problems mid-shot. Babies are really bad at following directions.
