If it weren't for the mods, SC4 would not really be worth playing at all. Maxis really did fuck it up with their idealistic bullshit (like having rich sims live in ghettos, hospitals in every corner, sims being extremely picky about their "commute times", this and that)
qft...
without a good old money cheat, i find SC4 to be a complete waste of time.
like a "game" where your supposed to stare boredly and frustratedly at the screen, untill you decide to watch tv instead or something.
if it wasnt for fans and modding communities SC4 would be complete garbage, mods make the entire difference.

The only 'mods' I used were different .wad files for DooM and the cheats for such. Games where you needed expansions and patches to run them are pointless, as you want sim(pli)city (excuse the pun) when playing them.

I'd rather a game where you just insert the disc into the console, or click on the icon to run the thing without all the hassle.

Sims 1 was pretty good and Sims 2 is alright too despite EA really milking the fuck out of it with useless expansion packs. The issue is that they play on vanity since most players of Sims are female. Sims 3 really annoys me because they're making one pay for individual items AND expansion packs, along with EA's paranoid measures of anti-piracy.

The first Sims for Playstation 2 is my favorite of the series I think. I liked 2 as well, and some of the expansions made really good individual games for PS2. I have Castaway and Pets on PS2 and I love them both. The console games are quite different than the PC version. I havent played 3 yet. I dont really play video games that much anymore

It's more of a poorly made digital dollhouse than a game or life simulation.

Agreed. But I like to play with dolls. Especially if you can kill them and make them walk around naked. I also like to make them puke for some reason. IDK. And I like to fuck up their houses too, and make them live in filth and be really unhappy and get into fistfights. And get rid of all the doors and burn the house down, etc. It's cute how if you kiss twice in a row you have a baby. Mine always get taken away by the social worker  because I listen to music too loud and cant hear it crying.

Video games, what are they?

I was influenced by playing cards, scrabble and jigsaw puzzles.

I have to agree with you on that. If a mod isn't a simple copy-and-paste or install, I'm probably not going to bother. I probably would have played Oblivion a lot more than just a few minutes, were the mods that were needed to make it a half-decent game not so large and tricky to install.

If I want my fantasy fix, then I'm playing Gauntlet IV on the Sega Genesis. If I want my FPS fix, I'm playing Duke Nukem 3D or Quake.

Might check out the specs again on the new Duke Nukem, to see if we can run it. Can't remember what we have in the box atm, but I'll do a look-see.

Loved the original DN 3D which I ran in DOS. Humour was brilliant, and kicking the badass on the spaceship levels was a scream.

Those were the games that we played most.  We did do Parchesi, jacks, Life, Checkers, etc.  The card games we played most were Battle, Jacks and Gin Rummy.  Bear in mind we were kids under 12, so no heavy betting.

Those games are only fun if there's more than one person. The good thing about computer games is that they are fun to play by yourself.

I really dont like card games. But I used to play them like constantly back in high school because that is what my friends did. So, we sat around drinking malt liquor smoking blunts playing spades. boring !

Simcity is good, but I found Simcity 4 onwards to be shit. I didn't like Sims 3 either, dumbed down and bogged with EA money making schemes.

One I'm currently really enjoying is Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Really like the art style and it's quite challenging for a modern game (most have been dumbed down to shit as of late). You can't go in guns blazing since it deliberately gives you fuck all ammo, so it forces you to use stealth and other creative methods. If you don't, you WILL die a lot even on easy. I don't like the regenerating console-twat health system though, although in all fairness the regeneration is quite slow and doesn't retract on the gameplay much. I will however consider Deus Ex 1 to be better when it comes to story.

heh, I just bought Deus Ex: Human Revolution because of what you said. It sounds like my type of game. :)

Also bought Brink for the sake of it and hope it's any good.
Existence actually has two broad meanings despite its apparent meaningless. The constant reconciliation of all its parts, and the conservation of any closed system as a whole.

Morality can be extrapolated from these meanings to make these two commandments of godless morality: 1). Be in harmony with one another and 2). Care for the environment.

A friend of mine bought that and absolutely hated it after raving on about how much he wanted it and lectured me into buying it (I didnt in the end).

So don't get your hopes up.
