I have a coffee table that swings up like that into a desk, of course nowhere near as modern looking as the one in the video at the beginning though. It's convenient as hell, but like moving a barge when you want to clean. 

Did you ever see this site? All of their furniture has built in storage compartments under the cushions, and you can order replacement covers or parts. If I ever break down and decide to buy "new" furniture I think I'd like to try it.

I love it.  I have a very early version of this sort of thing in the form of a reproduction of a colonial chair that turns into a table.

The murphys are a good idea for guests in a spare room that's used as an office. The minimalist design appeals to my own taste but wouldn't really want a bed that needed to be put away every day.

Good point.  The mattresses were attached to the platforms with what appeared to be nylon bands, so you would probably have to remove and store the pillows and thick bedding like comforters every morning as well.

I'll bet that it would be pretty expensive, too.

OK, there were two table-like things that didn't need to be completely empty. But still.
I do have stuff on my tables. Too much, but even when I think it is as it is at it's most organised, I have stuff on my tables.

Having to place plants and candles on the floor, so I can make my bed, or change a part of a cupboard into a chair just would not work for me.
