calling the police on the superficially nice mechanic who takes his greeting me with "mon ami!" every day as permission to store cars in my driveway.
they are supposed to call parking enforcement but since today's car doesn't have a license plate they have to send the police which means he will know that it's me calling them.
i don't like making enemies of neighbors but i also do not like having to ask permission to use my own driveway.

the next time he does it, pour gasoline on the car.

If he does it again, pour gasoline on the car, then light it.  :evillaugh:

Installing a couple of posts and a yellow chain across the driveway might be less vigilante like.  :lol1:

It's not idiotic, that implies stupidity. It's quite socially manipulative. He knows exactly how much trouble he won't get into, and he knows that people have much more trouble starting uncomfortable confrontations with somebody who smiles and calls them a friend.

You're right, of course. I'm just angry for you.

I practiced my French and on Thursday morning I talked to him. Or rather, I talked at him while he nodded and smiled and pretended not to be good at the language. But while I believe he doesn't understand much English, I'm certain his French is fine. I've heard that Latino (and probably many other) people do that, pretend not to understand when they want to squirm out of trouble. I didn't even have to use all my prepared arguments. But I should have looked him in the eye and asked if he understood, because I think getting someone to verbally state they understand is supposed to make them more likely to actually do as they say.

This morning when WolFish and I went out to work on the front flowerbed, he didn't smile and wave to us, but he didn't have us blocked in either. His pattern is to be compliant for a little while and then gradually get lazy again.

Knowing another language is cool.  How much French can you speak?  :)

I'll do your kitchen if you do my laundry.  :orly:
