Not surprised by the result. My friend's eleven year old got thrown out of school for picking up a knife from the cutlery tray and threatening someone.
Sounds bad. He had been bullied for two years and the school did nothing to help him. He suffered comments about his deceased mom like "i'm glad your mom is dead" and "suck your mom" every day along with racist stuff like "your mom died because she was an asian devil" "you are half devil" etc etc
My friend wanted to appeal to the school governors which we did last week. Result just heard - they are not overturning the ruling. So now we fight in an Independent Review Panel meeting - yikes!
Main point is the wording that will be on the kids record, any prospective new school will read it. It says "for taking a knife in school without permission" My argument being it is an ambiguous statement and implies he carries a knife which he doesn't.
The wording can't be changed now. The powers of the IRP are limited to upholding the exclusion or reinstating.
Well bring it on! Less than 1% of exclusions get reinstated and i wanna be in the 1% club. This kid is bright as a button and he has been treated badly. I am putting my gloves on
