OOps.....shite that was a bit too close for comfort...my shoelaces came undone, as I was working next door, almost tripped me whilst I had around 2 liters of 98% sulfuric acid in one hand (well, no, in a bottle, in my hand, obviously ) and a delicate glass flask containing ICl in the other.

Could have got messy, although I got my balance back pretty sharpish.

I think I need listerine-photographers hypo flavor, though...I can TASTE iodine..or something like it, in the back of my mouth and it just won't go away

Not a happy bunny right now. Looks like I need to get a new hotplate, or take this to bits and check for faults. Damn temperature control has ceased responding.just wonderfuckingfull while one is in the middle of something and needs to take the heat off quickly...only to find the damn pot controlling the voltage too the heating element is gone, and you can't do a fucking thing about it...while caustic and EtOAc are boiling and bumping looking like its going to runaway.

On a more serious note our Limey progenitors did not give a rat's patoot about what any continentals thought about the proper use of the letter R, gender based nouns etc.

I live not far from a city where they use a guttural "R" (brouwende "R"). It's common in the south of the Netherlands, but also in some northern cities, influence of the French, in the northern cities the way to show themselves off against the rural people.
