A day on foot back and fro seems to be a measure for changes in dialects. Means that the more challenging the environment to walk in, the more differences, and stronger differences in the language.

Thought my French was as good as gone overtime, but helping my kids with their homework more than 30 years after my last lessons in French, I found a lot of it was still there in my brains. It only needed triggering. My French is now better than it ever has been, and I did get more French in school than my kids got so far.

Attended a very small rural public school and French was the only second language offered. Intended to take the class during senior year, but the teacher decided to only offer second year French so the first year course was dropped along with a few other electives. The guidance counselor called me into his office at the beginning of the year to inform me I wouldn't graduate because I had already taken most all the other elective classes offered and I wouldn't be able to obtain the language credit. Didn't really need the elective credit, but laws required a five class day minimum regardless, and there weren't enough classes offered to fill my five hours. Told him my parents would probably sue the school if I couldn't graduate because they didn't offer enough classes for me to meet credit requirements. Was allowed to take geography a second time to fill the five hours. Not sure what they did to fudge the language issue, and can't recall if it was a required credit back then, but did in fact graduate without taking foreign language.

Not sure how true this is, but supposedly it only takes 90% of the time to re-learn something.  If it's Italian or French, the appropriate wine increases the re-learning speed.

I'm just disgusted with the fact that I took French from 4th grade through 11th and still can't make small talk with a cashier. In all that time they never got around to teaching us more than one and a half verb tenses, and the stupidest common everyday phrases trip me up, even though my vocabulary for other things is decent. They don't really teach kids and teens who are learning a language the practical things that an adult would need when on vacation or carrying out everyday tasks. How to do things at the bank, how to talk about rewards points and coupons in a store, how to understand the PA messages when there's a problem on the subway line. That kind of thing.

Seven years of Frency study? Maybe language processing just isn't your strongpoint. Don't feel bad though, I can't understand the cashier or decipher PA announcements even when they're speaking English.
