Drunk rich (mainly, or all white) people walking around downtown in santa suits and j-walking at very inconvenient junctions. At these events us lowly class folk stay as far away from the upperclass belligerence as possible. we cannot have our reputations tarnished by their lack of sensibility.
It's seriously a wonder nobody died. (welcome to the home sweet home of speaker John Boehner).
You know the other day this rich couple got on the shuttle thinking they would catch a ride-- (around game time we get a lot of such folks on the shuttles who have no idea how to ride one because they don't ever ride public transportation). They move about like privileged folks usually do- as if they own everything and everyone. On top of that, they act as if the drivers ought to earn a tip from them which they don't ever give nor are obliged to, and in the process can be very loud about what they do not find convenient (such as dinging the bell when they want to get off, as opposed to the bus driver magically knowing exactly where to escort them; or reading the sign on the bus that says where it is going). They also hold up lines, and are usually drunk. Anyways, this couple gets on and the man only has one dollar to pay for himself, and the lady doesn't have the money...so they shrug their shoulders and sit down without saying a word. I thought "mofos just stole a ride!" Blegh...I really wanted to offer them a dollar and say, "Do you guys need help with bus fare? Here you go." It would've turned the tables on 'em a bit...
*grumble*
I don't put up with that kind of shit http://www.intensitysquared.com/index.php/topic,21948.msg1017229.html#msg1017229
Would've enjoyed it if you were there.
I see this more now because I pass through downtown often...and in my city, downtown streets are pretty much traversed by lower class all day long, with the exception of a few foot routes between businesses. The business folk know the deal. But every once in awhile there is a city event, and suddenly the streets are covered with the suburbian entitled, overly pompous, rich, belligerent crowds who trash the streets, hold up traffic, and somehow manage to buy the protection of the police against the rest of us who walks these streets daily. I don't thank them when -after relocating all the bus stops to one, two, sometimes five blocks away- they then use the bus station as their personal garbage bins and toilets. For those days out of the year they kindly come around just to remind us who "owns" the city-- which after all, is obviously not the people who live in it. No...the real owners of this city don't even live here.
There's assholes in every economic class. This just makes you sound bitter for not having money. Or maybe just classist, rich people are all bla bla, rich white people bla bla.
Its a common narrative running through a lot of SG's threads. I try desperately to ignore it, but it does rankle. You are right though, Jack.
White is not better or worse than Black or Native American or Hispanic or Asian. Rich is no better or worse than poor. People are people.
Are you guys surprised that the rich people in my city are mainly white?
It is mentioned for a reason. My city is very segregated, and the racial aspect of inequality needs to have a big magnifying glass on it.
Poor white people can't stand rich white people either. The poor white folks in my city are mainly of appalachian descent, for a reason. I've known Irish folk to rant harder against the colonial dominance of British than I've allowed myself to. I don't understand the defensiveness. I'm not talking about you.
I don't like entitled rich people. Don't like them, and I don't like slave masters either. Or anyone who does business with them. Or anyone who benefits from them. Rich entitled people of any race are despicable. There are no arab princes here. There are John Boehners here. And so that is who I rant about.
Does this mean all white people are despicable inherently because of the colour of their skin? That's something white scientists made up to justify injustices against black people. Because we are inherently this way. And because white people are white, they inherently deserve all the privilege and control that they have. When anyone points this out, suddenly we are "making it about race"? Yeah right. We don't make it about race; we want it to stop being about race (and culture, which is a european dominate culture), but that change can't happen unless people see what hasn't. So I point it out. I don't live in a land where a rainbow of rich people oppress a rainbow of poor people. I live in a segregated city. I live in an income-based and culture-based apartheid. I see ghettos where everyone is the same colour; and I see extremely rich suburbs where everyone is either white or asian (Indian high caste or Chinese).
If you're rich, you have to know that you got that from someone being screwed over. The countries we live in are "developed", and the the "developing" ones who are forever in debt are that way for a reason. Everyone knows who owns this world. Thats why people (of all races) really don't like rich entitled white people. The rich entitled white people (not the poor white people) nearly took over the entire world in case y'all forgot.
It was the spawn of the roman empire on steroids. And the worst thing which was propagated during the time of Darwinism- by mainly the slave holding nations- were the deeply ingrained racial inequalities...books, articles, experiments were published, all obsessively focused on the hierarchy of races.....Hitler was not the mad man in the bunch. He was supported...by the time he came about there was already plenty of racially charged independent literature circulating among the various colonial clubs. He and his croonies didn't brainwash his people all on their own.
It is worse than anything ever created, and the stereotypes live on, not only with white people, but with coloured folk too. We have to remind ourselves that we are every bit as equal as white people, and remind ourselves that we don't deserve what we got, so that we can change. Otherwise we would just accept our circumstances and roll with the punches...which is what many of us do. White people even if poor (in this country) don't know what its like to roll with those kinds of punches. But they would, if we weren't so segregated and could speak plainly to each other without getting defensive.
But alas...that is not so. Instead when I look at belligerent ignorant fools who are rich privileged and white, I feel a special kind of disgust, the same disgust I have for the slaver owner's rich belligerent child, who had no idea - nor care- of the injustice of the entire scenario....of us having move to the side everytime they come home to throw a party.
