There are no state property taxes. The property taxes I pay are parish (recreation, library, sheriff, courts, school, drainage etc.) because I live in an unincorporated area.
We have about 7 towns/cities in the parish. Five (=/-)are on the Westbank of the Mississippi and 2 on the Eastbank. Cities have their own libraries, drainage, police, etc. The schools however are parish-wide.
Residential property is assessed at 10% of the value. The rate paid usually averages out to about 0.18% of the assessed FMV. We have the lowest property taxes in the nation.
Because we are retired we do not have any taxable income, so no income tax. We do pay 8.75% combined state and parish sales taxes. Groceries are taxed at a little over 3% I think, not sure of the exact percentage.
