One of the perks of being 65.  Our home's value is frozen in the year the older owner turns 65 (for PA that's 7 years ago).  Our taxes will only vary if the millages increase.  And we have a homestead exemption of $75,000.  We pay about $125 a year in taxes.

There are no state property taxes.  The property taxes I pay are parish (recreation, library, sheriff, courts, school, drainage etc.) because I live in an unincorporated area. 

We have about 7 towns/cities in the parish.  Five (=/-)are on the Westbank of the Mississippi and 2 on the Eastbank.  Cities have their own libraries, drainage, police, etc.  The schools however are parish-wide.

Residential property is assessed at 10% of the value.  The rate paid usually averages out to about 0.18% of the assessed FMV.  We have the lowest property taxes in the nation.

Because we are retired we do not have any taxable income, so no income tax.  We do pay 8.75% combined state and parish sales taxes.  Groceries are taxed at a little over 3% I think, not sure of  the exact percentage.

No state property taxes here either just the city,  but then there is a state income tax, state sales tax and one of the highest gas taxes in the country.  The city taxes do include the sewer fees and weekly garbage pick up.  Connecticut is a very expensive place to live :zombiefuck:

Not sure how high our gas taxes are.  I've never been able to break out the fed from the local rates.

I'm lucky that I usually work the fall election(s) - primary and run-off.  That gives me 2 checks to cover the property taxes on the house and the co-owned property that no one else contributes to.

We level average our natural gas and electric - they run about $115 a month.  We pay about $45 every other month for water, sewage, and garbage pick-up.

Based on Louisiana's rankings in most studies, I guess we get what we pay for.

It's probably psoriatic arthritis, but I haven't talked to the rheumatologist after last week's supposedly decisive ultrasound.
