Pyraxis, its possible to un-delete files, at least on a windoze box.
The file system Micro$hite OSes handle file alloation to disk with, FAT16/FAT32, or NTFS, 'delete' files by simply removing the pointers to the data on the HD, which equates to hiding the sign marked 'don't overwrite me, I'm being used already' from the OS. The files are still there unless, and until the affected portion of disk platter gets physically overwritten.
PM me if you want me to look into it further and try to suggest a suitable undelete utility. Try not to do things that result in writing to the HD, such as creating files, saving/opdating stuff, as this type of action increases the chance of overshadowing your data.
Unless your intern used a file-shredder. Which, I might add, are essential if you want to properly get rid of 'owt private. Piriform's CCleaner is a free one that has a fileshredder capable of from 1-2 passes of random bit written, to a full guttman 32 pass overwrite. Also comes with the option to securely erase your computer usage history, opened files, start/run menu, to do so on startup/shutdown, to delete specified files or folders, on or off scheduled runtimes. Kicks arse.
Do PM me pyraxis if you want me to try to give you some tech support, as I2 is high traffic enough that I may not see a reply here.
