Lots of stress at work... again. I keep telling them that this cannot continue indefinitely. I can't be expected to solve their lack of planning every fucking time.

Yes, Carla is feeling that too and she is ready to crack.  As  my favorite self made quote goes, "Bad planning on mgmt's part is NOT an emergency on mine".

It's getting ridiculous. I have work ethics. I feel responsible for the things I do, so I think they take advantage of that. Not sure if it's entirely conscious on their part but it feels that way. It's a ruse - you are given a title and responsibilities, but not the powers you need to make the problems go away.

Yes, that is exactly how Carla is feeling.  She takes her responsibilities as a Pharmacist very seriously.  And corporate walmart exploits it to the Nth degree!

I guess that's why I'm at the computer, working away.

I'm lucky in that I do enjoy my job. I don't like companies using me, and normally I'd like to do my 8 hours and be done with it for the day, but I still like some of the challenges.

They tend to do that. Nothing to freak out about, but I guess the US might be different from the EU in that respect.

I've been interviewing lots and lots of people lately since apparently it's one of my responsibilities these days and we really need developers (I told them so, which is why the interviews happen), and we do check them to some extent. Above all, though, we give them a test I wrote to gauge their capabilities and approach to problem-solving.

That test saved us once or twice.

Background checks in the US are generally criminal background checks and identity verification, though specific types of jobs might also look at other things like credit or driving history. More of an HR function than a hiring manager.

I'm working early tomorrow to help LL, going to try to aim for 8:00 am to wake up and go to work... just slightly pissed off that I don't see my therapist tomorrow, but I'll learn to deal with it for this week.

^ Kayleigh experienced her first aura last week. She came to me in a panic, not knowing what it was. She described it and I knew. How? Because I've read about it on here. Gradually her aura disappeared. She didn't get a migraine, lucky.
