Regardless the smell has dissipated now. A bit of bi-carb sprinkled on the carpet, a bit of air movement and a full change of bed linens did the trick.
In retrospect it was probably a mildewy smell more than anything. It's been raining a lot so....

The hydraulic cylinder on my engine hoist broke and I had to cobble together a sketchy temporary  replacement to move some machinery

That's what I hate most about this house...the proximity to the highway. It's a busy one, and the noise is unreal some days. About 150 motorcycles every summer weekend having a poker run, frack trucks rumbling through in lots of 4 around 4:00 AM, jake brakes, and some obnoxiously loud hemi equipped trucks, along with the occasional back firing POS that makes you jump out of your skin.

I never realized how loud it was until I moved out and then moved back in again. You do go numb to it after awhile, but I know it probably contributes to my insomnia.
