I saw this, and I had to comment. I didn't know either, but I found this on wikipedia
It reacts with sodium chloride, and gives hydrogen chloride gas and sodium bisulfate:
NaCl + H2SO4 → NaHSO4 + HCl
So there you go. I had a thought that it might set up a buffer solution, even though the salt and the acid have different conjugate bases, but I guess not. I think the conjugates do have to be the same. Forgive me, titration was
not my strong point last semester!
By the way, in the unlikely event that that does happen to you, try not to breathe the HCl.
