Thinking they have me wrong somehow in their records.
For the third time this month, someone came to my door this morning from the Veterans Administration to offer me updated information about the benefits available to me as a veteran.
I have never served in that way. I tried twice, once was even a week long mock boot camp enlistment thing.
When I worked at the, now closed, army fort (Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis) as a civilian contractor (photographer) I had to have access to many secure areas to do my job and I had to have a military ID in order to enter some of these areas.
I also had to show the same DOD issued ID when entering a closed to the public Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois where I also did some work.
It was a true and proper ID and I was told that it gave me access to all the base's amenities, including the gyms, PX, theater and jogging paths.
I never used it that way. I felt that I had not earned the right, just because I used my extensive skills to win a contract.
Anyway, they have me down as having served from '90 to '94, while I was running around taking pictures of REAL service folk.
As far as I know that ID expired the second those bases closed. I do not want them to waste any more of their time informing me.
None of these benefits apply to me.
SHIT! I mean do not come the nice houses in the suburbs - Go find that guy that lives under the fucking expressway overpass with winter coming on. HELP HIM!
