And just a quick bit of brown reloaded into the little glass pipe used for same before sticking my boots  on, getting the protective gear and getting started. Just plonked the chemicals, or some of them, the ones that I could grab hold of them at one time, on top of the cooker temporarily, while I smoke this, and a cigar, have a few swigs of coke then get ready to recrystallize my starting material and get it nice and pure when tested by means of assay of the melting point,

Ooh, just remembered, have to set up the vacuum line for filtration. Much more convenient to get it set up BEFORE starting work than when one is about to need it. That way I can just hook up the line and turn on the vacuum, rather than fiddling about having to set up the equipment itself while something is already cooling in a flask etc.

Grrr.....fucking hell. I can't find my short-path distillation head anywhere. I've checked the lab, I've checked the lounge in the crates of glassware there, I've got only the kitchen as a last resort. I KNOW it's somewhere, but I can't fucking find it for the life of me. This is beginning to piss.me.OFF!

I need that short path head for a vacuum distillation of something that is a little sensitive to oxidation.

I have sort of done it before with WolFish's book. That was an absolute pleasure because I got to read an exciting and engaging book at the same time.

I know. :)

At some point I'm going to have Water Song finished and I would love if you could read that over too.

I'd love to do that for you. Have you drawn any pictures for that one?

Rather pleased right now, one of my hotplate-magnetic stirrers had for some reason, the motor that drives the magnets had shat itself and died, old man is pretty handy with electronics, (built his own tube amp for  his guitar etc), he went through a thorough diagnostic on it but couldn't see why it wasn't working, when it should have been.

But, by pure damn luck, my old man found a motor that, whilst not precisely the right size, would fit in as a replacement with some holees drilled in a metal mount and bolted in. Random motor, the right size and more or less the right voltage, he doesn't know where it came from, just random luck. Murphy's law in reverse. It's fitted in now, and it works. When it's told to heat, it heats, when it's programmed to spin up, it does so at the right speed. Sorted.

Reading a biography of Warren Zevon, a rock and roller from the 70's and 80's.  By his ex wife Crystal Zevon, with his collaboration and permission before he died in 2003.   Quite a roller coaster reader, the man was brilliant, but seriously fucked up from his childhood till the end.  Alcohol, drugs and sex, mostly alcohol ruled.  Parents, seriously screwed him up.

I've been into R&R biographies the last year, Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac fame (talk about sex, drugs and rock and roll), Greg Lake, John Fogarty, Billy Joel, Samantha Fox (the UK singer, not the porn star), etc.   But, this one is a slow read to say the least.  I can only handle a chapter or two, before I feel exhausted.  The title, I'll sleep when I'm dead; the dirty life and times of Warren Zevon.   Fascinating read to say the least, but, sad and depressing.

I think Samantha Fox (the singer) was more famous as a very busty page-3 girl in the UK.

She did have a longer  career as a singer of dance music in the 80's.  But, appeared as a page 3 girl about 4 times.  Which was a record.  Quite a cutie.  Still pretty attractive in her 50's.

It's how she got to be a singer, I think.

The dashes in this sentence are very uncharacteristic of your writing. The context makes it a little funny. Were you making a joke?

They should be em dashes but I couldn't be bothered. And yes, it was a kind of a joke, given the context.

Nothing like a delicious lunch of sauteed medallions of pork tenderloin, coated with bread crumbs, the last remaining cherry tomatoes of the year and some rice a roni.  Good way to start my vacation!   8)
