DumbAss Computer Operator

The DumbAss Computer Operator is me.  I was trying to clean out my cookies and temporary files, but I messed something up.  Whenever I type in the search engine it gives me,

GOOGLE 404. That's an error
The requested URL/hws/search?
hl=en&client=dell&channel=us-psp&ibd&q=(the searched for term) was not found in this server.  That's all we know.

I get this message for sites I accessed as recently as today.  The only way I can get to a website is if I go through favorites. 

Will someone tell me how to undo my stupidity.  If necessary I'll even give my phone number so you can walk me through it, that's how desperate I am.

Are you searching from the Google website? If not, might be worth making your homepage. http://www.google.com/

Thanks Jack.  When I went to bed I warned Prince Albert of what he could expect when he got on the computer Wednesday.  He said he'd had that problem some time back and it went away.  So, since I couldn't sleep I got back on the computer and guess what?  The problem went away.  I am now convinced this computer is female and had a bad case of PMS.  ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH.

This shouldn't happen as a result of deleting cookies or cache. It sounds more like a DNS problem--that is, something can't translate the web address to an IP number.
