tooth ache :(
« on: June 30, 2011, 11:17:08 AM »
im REALLY hoping this isnt an infected cavity, or something that requires dentist-intervention, but i am getting more and more convnced this will end with a gaping mouth at the dentists :(:(:(

i bought mouth wash today, to see if i can reverse infection, if thats the problem :(

symptom is a coming-and-going pain, varying randomly from no-pain-at-all, to a pulsating infection-ish pressure.
its not a localized pain, as it sortof "floats" alongside the right side of my lower jaw.
my gums are sore around my 3 backmost molars

i am suspecting/hoping that this COULD be caused by a wisdom tooth that appeared 2 years ago, and caused extreme pain back then. i withstood the pain, and it ended by itself. i am hoping that this pain now comes from my teeth pushing each others, cus they ARE all very squashed together, to the point of sortof pushing each others out of their position (on that side of my jaw, my teeth are slightly angled and squewed all the way to the incisors in the front)
another detail supporting this "hypothesis" is that non-molars in the front, that are NOT in pain, are definitely more sensitive and "itchy"

two days ago, there was slight discomfort, but cus of the pressure between teeth, that side of my jaw has always been kinda sensitive :/
yesterday, it went from no-pain-at-all, to almost burning pain, on and off
today, mostly mildly discomfortable. right now i only feel a slight pressure, nothing else

if it gets any worse by tomorrow, im gonna consider dentist

but i fucking haaate dentiiists :(:(:(:(:'(:'(:'(:'(

Really consider the dentist, I hate them too, but honestly a toothache is nothing to fuck with.

Meanwhile look for something with 100% clove oil in it in the toothache numbing crap in the drugstore. Tastes like shit but it seems to work the best to numb the pain in my past experience.

IMO, you have to go to the dentist or at least a doctor and the sooner, the better.

Do you see or feel any obvious cavities in any of your molars?  Is there a bad smell or taste in your mouth?

If the gums are sore, that might mean you have an abcessed tooth.  To see if the pain can be localized to a single tooth if you don't see any cavities, you could tap each molar in turn with something small and metal like a spoon handle.

A doctor could give you antibiotics to help you deal with an infection or an abcess, but if it's caused by a tooth that has a cavity in it, ultimately you need a dentist.

from just checking, all teeth look fine, and theres no strange smell or taste

pressuring each tooth, the 3rd molar (counting the wisdom tooth) is the most sensitive, but it still is in the gums where i feel it the most, not in the tooth itself

thanx for that suggestion, icequeen

The bad taste would probably be there if the abcess broke open and the pus came out.

Is there a bad smell on the dental floss when you carefully floss those molars?  I'm wondering whether there might be a cavity between the third molar and the second one near the gumline.

there was a _hint_ of blood, but nothing else :I

theres one thing, im not sure if im hallucinating or not, but it SEEMS sometimes my teeth move. its a subconcious panic in me, causing many bad dreams even :D
but all night, chewing down comfortably was difficult, because it felt like those molars wouldnt fit correctly,
but now they fit and lock perfectly. this is also something ive felt before, along with some discomfort, but never this much discomfort at the time :I

right now, its a bit more intense than earlyer today, a bit "warmer" consistent pressure/mild pain.. and it feels like its in the jaw itself, whatever that means :I

also, right between the 2nd and 3rd molar, the gums are a bit more swollen in fact, so the gum-pain could be localized to there...

Wisdom teeth can do that.

Been to the dentist a couple of times with pains like that, including swollen cheek and all. Nothing to be found. It passed.

Still, it is good to have it checked, and ask the dentist for an X-ray if that has not been made yet.

Then they can see if the problem will resolve itself, or if something needs to be done.

Clove oil, and rinsing your mouth with a hydrogen peroxide solution or saline solution are good in the mean time.

ah im so glad you had a wisdom-tooth related similar ache.

i am remembering more, when my wisdom teeth DID come out originally, 2 years ago, it was the same part of the jaw that was in a lot of pain, the same teeth

how long did it last in your case(s)?
dentist is really expensive, i dont want to go, unless it really doesnt give up aching :I

Well, the side that hurt the most took years to settle down. Funny thing there was that they had never taken an X-ray, just assuming it was my wisdom tooth. Turned out there was no wisdom tooth there, only a rudimentary nerve-ending. There also was nothing wrong with the other molars. It just made no sense. It only finally settled down after a root-canal treatment over ten years later. My guess is that I had one over-sensitive molar.

Other jaw, the pain was gone soon, once the wisdom tooth had emerged. That it still hasn't settled for you is weird. You may have an extra wisdom tooth. Happens, just like it happens that people have no wisdom teeth. Has there ever been an X-ray taken?
