I wasn't given a prescription pain medicine, but I was given antibiotics.  I remember being surprised how much it still hurt after the shots wore off.

i think its well and properly dead :]

i really dont "approve" of this procedure from a... procedural point of view tho, but there hasnt been any alternatives untill now.
i read about some new cream developed, that will actually reach through, and clear out infections that would otherwise require a root canal.
why oh why couldnt they just have given me that cream :(

I knew a guy who when he had a tooth ache rinsed with Jack Daniels and spit it out.  It dulled the pain but he stunk of alcohol all day

I have a definitive fear of the dentist. I haven't been since I was 12.  :(

It's not so much the sensations of scraping teeth and the like, but I have an EXTREMELY sensitive gag reflex as well as a phobia of gagging (and throwing up). Having some guy's hand in my mouth just makes me gag about every ten seconds, causing huge huge panic attacks and making it pretty difficult for him to work on my teeth. Gag, remove hand, close mouth, get over it, start all over again...

Srsly.

I'm gonna have to go to the dentist someday and by then I hope I'm so doped up on drugs that I don't care what's done to me!

That's sad.  Can the doctor give you some sort of sedative like Ativan to calm you down just a little and make the visit somewhat more bearable?

I don't think Ativan would be strong enough. It's not just the panic attacks but the actual act of continually gagging which makes it pretty near impossible to work on me. I'd need something much stronger than Ativan.

I too have a very strong fear of the dentist and have not been in years since the one that finally calmed me down enough to go died and his replacement just rubbed me the wrong way.  I am not sure barring being knocked out I could sit through it.

Need to find myself a new one. My own will be retiring soon. And his replacement just is not what calms me, nor my girls.

Will go with the friend of my oldest to her dentist soon, to see how I like it there. If it's OK, I'll try if they will take us as patients.

I had a dentist years ago who would not believe that the shot hadn't numbed the area.  While he was drilling, I bit him.  We both decided a bit more medication was necessary and a new dentist in the future.

   I had a dentist snap at me too.  Let's all of us Google-search and find some special dentists for us!
