Brian the Snail - sacked by charity after marathon run
« on: June 15, 2011, 03:05:05 AM »
Just been reading about this man who ran a marathon dressed as a snail for charity and then got sacked for not raising enough money!

>

>
Action for Kids fundraiser  hoped to raise at least £100,000 for the charity but received about £20,000.

The 49-year-old former footballer from Essex, who has raised more than £5m for charity over the years, said he was "shocked" by the decision.

He was accompanied around the course by people dressed as other characters from the Magic Roundabout including Florence, Dylan and Zebedee.

He suffered nosebleeds and vomiting as he crawled the course at the pace of a mile a day.

The fundraiser said: "The trustees made their decision just 11 days after I'd finished the marathon."

Action for Kids spokesperson said   "Whilst his involvement in the marathon significantly raised our profile it did not result in any increased funding,
and in fact, cost the charity several thousand pounds."

I think they are being very mean.   On the other hand this man was a paid employee of the charity
(something about being paid by a charity seems wrong to me) and i guess if he didn't perform
as his contract they have the right to get rid!
blah blah blah

Yeah fuck them.
I2 today is not i2 of yesteryear. It is a knitting circle. Those that participate be they nice or asshats know their place and the price to be there. Odeon is the overlord

.Benevolent if you toe the line.

Think it is I2 of old? Even Odeon is not so delusional as to think otherwise. He may on occasionally pretend otherwise but his base is that knitting circle.

Censoring/banning/restricting/moderating myself, Calanadale & Scrapheap were all not his finest moments.

How to apologise to Scrap

Did you see this last bit?

Quote
Mr. Scott said he was "determined to continue fundraising for Action for Kids".

He literally crawled 26 miles in 26 days for that charity and they fired him just 11 days after that.

I wouldn't want to raise any more money for them if I were he.

Why? Isn't the money supposed to go to kids, not the people who fired him

Anyway, while I agree it is fucked up that he got fired and I feel for the guy, it is kinda misleading to say he was fired for not raising enough money - wasn't he fired for LOSING them money because the costume cost more than he made?

Some of the money would go to the kids, but since he was being paid a salary by the charity, it's reasonable to assume the people who fired him are being paid salaries as well.

I don't like Action for Children as a charity.
Very over dramatic in a kind of "Think of the children!!!" kind of way.

I just think the way they act is idiotic and OTT , ever since that Autism advert they did years ago.

Just IMO though.
I'll just diagnose myself as Goddess of the Universe and have done with it. Hell with autism!  :green: :zoinks:

nice is just something written on biscuits.

Some charity.  According to a charity website I found, apparently they lend power wheelchairs to children as well as fix them when they break, but they "encourage" families of these children to raise funds to cover the cost.  They also have a replica house to teach children to do chores and do other things like count change to gain independence.

I forgot to mention , they're kinda sleazy too.

I'm sure they do SOME good , but I don't think of them as a particularly nice charity personally.
