You could try a shampoo based on selenium sulfide, the 'medicated anti-dandruff' type CBC, in case its caused by a fungus, which do often favor the skin on the scalp and cause itching.


Random observation-I slept well yesterday...all day. Watched a movie and posted a bit here. After I finish reading what I'm reading in a PDF on my machine then I'm going back to bed.

  I will try that if nothing else works.  I don't have flakes, just dry itchy skin, and not only on my scalp.
   I'm just getting too old    to be using harsh detergent-type soaps and shampoos.

Perhaps try washing your hair with Dove or another moisturizing soap.  I do it every once in a while without any bad consequences.

Sulfides are like that in many cases.

And indeed, chalcogen-based compounds other than those incorporating only that gas we have evolved to respire, tend to smell worse as one gets down the periodic table. (for ex. H2O-almost no smell, very, very faint, inoffensive; H2S, toxicity aside, rotting eggs, H2Se-more toxic still, extremely, gutwrenchingly abysmal stench)

No idea what hydrogen telluride smells of, never personally encountered any, but it will be even more lethally toxic than hydrogen selenide and doubtless smell even fouller.
