Here in Pennsylvania you have a civil "common law" marriage if you live together more than 7 years.

Personally I think legal marriage should be banned altogether, even civil partnerships.

Morality can be extrapolated from these meanings to make these two commandments of godless morality: 1). Be in harmony with one another and 2). Care for the environment.

I agree that marriage is a load of bullshit. But at the same time it's a quick and easy way of getting all the legal protection (and yes financial benefits too lol) that comes with it.

Because they want to legally change the relation to their family. When they die, they don't want family to kick out the remaining partner out of the house, don't want to leave the remaining partner bereft of half of the goods.

It is legal security people seek. Can't see how gender should make any difference in the type of legal security you seek for a relationship.
