Had a friend come over today and help with my rear brakes, I had never changed rear disc brakes felt better having someone around who works on cars all the time.  They had been scraping some for a couple weeks and a couple days ago they began making hellish noises  but I was always busy or it was raining so it didn't get done till today.  We took off the tires and where shocked one caliper must have been stuck and the fins on the rotor were coming through the face of it.  He had never seen anything like it and told me I was lucky it didn't shatter.  I know there are some car people here anyone ever see any rotors this bad?

I have never seen rotors that bad.....especially on one side only.
Only thing I can think of is maybe a piston on one side of the brake caliper was sticking  :dunno:

Had both the front ones replaced recently. They were paper thin like that from the side view, but didn't have the spokes showing through like your photo.

It wasn't sliding correctly, cleaned it up and greased the slides and it works fine now.  You could see light coming through them by the fins and I could bend them with my fingers :o

I have seen them bad, where I haven't been able to have the rotor turned and had to replace it, but never as bad as yours.  I did have a piston on a caliper stick one time, but I got to it quicker before the rotor looked that bad.  You're lucky you checked the brakes when you did.

Normally stuck caliper or (GM rear ?) parking brake is fucking up/sticking. I'd keep an eye on it.

I've seen them almost paper thin, but never to that point.  Wow. :zombiefuck:

On a plus note I'd think your MPG's should go up a bit.

It took me four separate visits to this thread to finally figure out how ya'll were talking.  After puzzling over the pictures I finally think I know more than I did before.  I wouldn't feel comfortable driving with metal that thin.  Now I'll know what to look for if I'm ever shown a rotor/caliper by the shop.  Thanks.

A normal rotor should be equally thick on both sides, not paper-thin on one side like Part's rotor is:



The caliper is the part of the braking system that has hydraulic pistons which press the brake pads onto both sides of the rotors when the brakes are applied.

The second I saw the picture I could tell that. You're lucky that was on the rear brake. If that was on the front, the results could be catastrophic!!!  :o  :o  :o

I'm realy suprised that you couldn't hear that sooner. :scratchhead:

I heard it aout two weeks ago but it either was bad weather or I was busy with work.  I wasn't that worried and already figured I needed new rotors just never thought they were that bad
