I would say British health care because I hear over there, everyone is covered while here not everyone is and we have to buy health insurance or get it through work. It's so expensive to have your partner on it and your kids and not everyone can afford that. Not everyone here can get free health care because they make too much money. Our health care system is so screwed up my mom gets patients who come in very sick when it could have been treated if they came in a lot sooner. But the reason why they waited till they got very sick is because they have no health insurance and they can't afford doctor bills so they don't go in and when they get very sick, they have no choice but to go to the ER and it also screws them over because then they get no money because they just can't afford to pay them. And it's illegal to refuse treatment when they come into ER. But hey can you blame them? If we had free healthcare, then this wouldn't be a problem but then we just have higher taxes to pay.

Sadly people on medicare or medicaid whatever it's called are shunned by society here because people assume they are leeching off them and cheating the system. That's why I am private about my income now and other stuff. I keep things a secret now because of so much judgments. Only thing I have shared is being on WIC and getting Care Oregon because I had no health insurance.

@ Butterflies, yes it does suck to be poor here and I think our country likes taking advantage of them. We make them pay more in taxes for one. I think it should be the other way around and I hear our president is trying to change that. My husband and I always claim zero on out taxes so we don't end up owing anything. Plus we are getting over $5,000.00 back thanks to our kid but if we had him this month, we wouldn't be able to claim him until next year. I am thinking about starting a fund for him for his future like putting some money away for him whenever we get extra money like from taxes.

I agree. I think the system should always help the poor in society. Not helping the poor creats a more uneven society and will lead to an underclass. That creats problems for all of society, including the richer people.

Not as much anymore. Hillary got rid of a lot of waste and abuse in the stystem during the Clinton admistration. No doubt there's still some, but it's much more likely anyone getting government assistance qualifies for it and people know that.

We've got a system that is a bit in between.

Everyone is obliged to get a basic health insurance, but, can choose what insurance company to use, and with how much own risk per year. On top of the basic insurance, extras can be insured. For those who have a really low income, a big chunk of the costs of insurance are refunded by the taxes. Because of the choice of insurance company, there is competition. Insurance companies also help out in finding where to get treated the quickest. Some insurance companies offer that service also to people who are insured elsewhere. The way to get new clients. This competition does make waiting lists a lot shorter.

The obligation makes it a bit like the NHS. The choice of insurance company, and the option of getting extras insured, makes it a private insurance.

I have my basic health, and some extras insured. That means that physiotherapy is covered for more than 10 times a year. My dental costs are also insured, to a certain maximum. So far, I have not exceeded that.

For some things there are long waiting-lists here. Urgent things will be done urgently though.

I was born in the bedroom of my parents btw. The GP and a maternity nurse attending. A Dutch home delivery.

Soph: aren't you still waiting for a clinic appointment, or something similar?

I spoke to a Brit in chat once (not this chat) who was in agony from gallstones
and had to wait  18 weeks  for surgery to remove the gallbladder!  :zombiefuck:

wouldnt the same people theoretically wait _for ever_, OR end up w gigantic debts?
i know an american who owes 30 000 dollars for heart surgery. she will never be able to pay it up.

A friend of mine worked in Florida for a while, and had private health-insurance there. The costs were gigantic, compared to the costs she made here for a private health-insurance here (we had a different system than we have now then) She had surgery twice, and saw lots of hospitals from the inside. All she ever got back from insurances was something like $45. She and her husband had good jobs. So, it did not bring them down. She wasn't pleased with the health-insurance though.

Over here we hear horror stories about Medicaid. I would hate to rely on the American health system if I was poor. I'm sure it has many great hospitals for those that can afford it though.

From what I hear about over here, America is a terrible place to live if yiou're really poor. Sadly, we seem to be following Americas lead, and making things harder for the poor as well. This is not a road I'm happy for my country to be taking :(

We're following them in obesity levels as well :(

I2 today is not i2 of yesteryear. It is a knitting circle. Those that participate be they nice or asshats know their place and the price to be there. Odeon is the overlord

.Benevolent if you toe the line.

Think it is I2 of old? Even Odeon is not so delusional as to think otherwise. He may on occasionally pretend otherwise but his base is that knitting circle.

The blue in her face was because of the corset being just a bit too tight you know.

because she is perpetually unemployed because of severe health condition. its sortof obvious.

she lives in some hut in new mexico now, in growing debt, and no way to pay back.

cbc, yes she got the surgery, and then more. idunno how much she owes now, those 30 000 were like a decade ago, she had several complications since then.

as far as i know, she pays her rent with artwork comissioned from various places
