It's just round the corner from my house

which is better - the american health system, or the british healthcare system?

Well, I live in the healthcare capital of the country. Also, a few of the specialty hospitals in my city are some of the best hospitals IN THE WORLD. I've probably got a hundred hospitals to go to if I wanted to.

I spoke to a Brit in chat once (not this chat) who was in agony from gallstones
and had to wait  18 weeks  for surgery to remove the gallbladder!  :zombiefuck:

Well, I can't say anything about the healthcare systems, but it's obvious that American dentists are better than the British.  :hahaha:

Yeah I am. They're also tryna get out of funding my ocd treatment with some pretty stupid excuses. There are MAJOR problemos with our system here, but I do think it's better than no free healthcare.

It's nationalised so obviously there are gonne be problems as they need the funding etc, but that's not to say that nationalised healthcare doesn't work.

If you have the money, you can still go private if you don't like the wait

All of them are exceptional if you have money. As for a typical American with good insurance it's still pretty good most of the horror stories you hear are people with poor or no insurance.  I don't know enough about your system to give a real comment on it but I am sure the further down the socioeconomic line you go the worse it gets

There is free healthcare for the poor. It is called Medicaid. There are also many programs like CHIP for working families. And then there is Medicare for the elderly and the disabled.

Over here we hear horror stories about Medicaid. I would hate to rely on the American health system if I was poor. I'm sure it has many great hospitals for those that can afford it though.

From what I hear about over here, America is a terrible place to live if yiou're really poor. Sadly, we seem to be following Americas lead, and making things harder for the poor as well. This is not a road I'm happy for my country to be taking :(

How? Everyone has equal access to the NHS

eris - from what I have read (and I am not pretending to know a lot so could be wrong), there's a considerable amount of people stuck in the middle - not poor enough to qualify for medicaid but definitely not with enough money to get seen properly

Like what? It's there for those who need it. Some private doctors don't take medicaid but there's pleny who do.

Oh yeah definitely. The really rich will always find ways to trample over anyone in their way. When it comes to your average citizens though (unemplyed, w/c, m/c) I don't think it has any difference
