Just wondering about this,  here commercials and shows are ripe with people with English or Australian accents I believe thinking it sells more or is more authoritative.  is it the same there with American ones?  I would think not but I am curious

I've noticed quite a few too. Didn't think it was part of some kind of conspiracy though.  :dunno:

The Queen's English does sound a bit more sophisticated, but some Australian accents sound more ignorant that Southern accents.  ::)

We sometimes get adverts with American accents here in the UK, but it tends to be cheesy low-budget adverts from US companies where they didn't make a localised version for the UK market.  We also get adverts with Australian accents, but those tend to be well-made adverts where the Australian accents make sense given the context, like a beer advert set in the Australian outback or something like that.

Here we get a lot of Ads with American accents. Funny to hear it was the other way around too.

Aussie accents are terrible. :P

That said Dutch accents  :eyebrows:

Think it is I2 of old? Even Odeon is not so delusional as to think otherwise. He may on occasionally pretend otherwise but his base is that knitting circle.

If I spent some time around some Germans, I could re-gain the German-English accent. They pronounce their w's funny along with some of their vowels. I'd have to hear it again for a while to remeber how the accent goes.

in my experience, i found that a german speaking norwegian, and a brit speaking norwegian, sounds almost identical, apart from some minor details (the R mainly)
americans are easily noticed of course :D

Accents don't entice me to buy or not buy a product.  Stupidity in the commercials will generally turn me off (Geico Cavemen, Mr. Whipple and Charmin).  I say generally because the determination of what is stupid is subjective.

"the masses" easily buy into ads
its very very effective, or else it wouldnt be such an industry

i think they use accents _very VERY conciously_, its no accident, like oops, did you guys notice the actor is australian!?
