Exactly. Pets would be great if somebody else does all the shitty tasks. In my house we'd all want to do the fun stuff like playing with them, but then we'd fight over the shitty tasks like cleaning up after them, and taking them walks if its raining. None of us really even clean up after ourselves.

Dog and cat food makes me boak :zombiefuck: I don't know how they can eat that stuff.

Comedian Dara O Briain does it right: He "preaches" atheism - but in a manner where he is fully aware that his audience allready agree - so it's not really breaching, but more of a "am I right!?" attitude.

The error most "preachy" people do, is to talk to the audience as if they are all enemies - and each individual audience member feels "special" and "excluded" from this - and he feels as if the preacher is ballsy enough to be this angry and direct to all the "random enemies" sprinkled out in the audience (even though there are none)

it plays with deception.
Many favorite "preachers" have done the same, such as George Carlin, Bill Hicks and Dough Stanhope. It is a sneaky effect that is unfortunately very popular among audiences.

I disagree. I think George Carlin was a crotchety old cantankerous old man who was very astute at seeing the silliness and inequities in life down to those niggly things we can not really put a name on to the big social problems. He was social commentary par excellence.

I agree with every word Richard Dawkins AND George Carlin says.

It is their delivery I disagree with. Now - to be fair, Hicks and Stanhope are much better examples than Carlin - but what I refer to is - the act of yelling AT your own audience, as if they are to blame
"YOU christians!" "YOU morons!" "YOU pro-abortion assholes!" when there are no such people in the audience.
The audience loves this, cus to them it creates the illusion that there are plenty of pro-abortion audience members, getting their skin-ful, when there aren't! :D
