Goin' to Owen's Valley
« on: October 11, 2010, 10:47:39 PM »
Well my nizzles, I have to start packing for my next geology field trip. I'll be spending 5 days in Owen's Valley on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada Mts.

We're going to be looking at the volcanic activity in the Long Valley Caldera & such shit.

Just like my trip to Death Valley, this trip will be in conjunction with Santa Barbara City College, so we will have full catering service out in the field!! :party"

I'm bringing 2 fifths of Sailor Jerry's Rum and my friend is bringing 1/4 oz. of dank so it should be a fun trip.

I may post a few times before I leave so I'll probably sign of tomorrow night.

Geological field trips equal fun so much, that they should be named in the descriptions of fun in a dictionary.

But you have to climb around on all those big ROCKS!   :blonde:

Yup, there is mud and dust too.
FUN!!!

And then factor in the nature of the participants too.

I'm very positively biased towards people who do geology or physical geography.

Once I went down in a wild cave, and it turned out to be a lot bigger than I thought. There was even a stream way down in there, and all kinds of chambers. I found a lot of stalagmites and stalagtites, including some that were pure white. They almost looked like ice.

I even caught a bat, and kept him as a pet for a while. Feels good man.

That's typical. It's usually underground streams that cut caves out of limestone or marble. The carbonic acid in the water eats the calcium carbonate out of the limestone/marble.
