I mastered the washing machine.  :zoinks:

Bhkslkdfkls, stop trying to look up to me. Or whatever the fuck you're doing.

How can he not look up to you. When I'm in need of inspiration I simply look through your old posts and I feel totally inspired to face whatever life has to throw at me :P

I can barely handle life.

No.  You just need to learn how to do it.

I learned how to do it when I was fairly young and taught my daughter when she was much younger than you are now how to do laundry and if I had to guess, your mother would be thrilled to teach you how to do it.  If she won't, I'll give it a try to teach you myself, but it would be easier for you to have someone to show you.

Don't feel bad for not knowing yet.   I went to college with boys who still didn't know how to do laundry, so they brought their dirty clothes home every weekend for mom to do for them.  I admit I used these people as an example to show my daughter how lucky she was that she had a mom who taught her how to do it herself.

There's a difference between being retarded and being untrained, uninformed or unlearned.  Even in retardation, there's a spectrum of abilities and disabilities.

In the USA there were 2 books written about the transition from childhood to independence:  Where's Mom Now That I Need Her? and Where's Dad Now That I Need Him?  I'm not sure if there are equivalent books in other parts of the world.

Google the topics you don't know how to do.  Look at several of the sites, no one is going to have all you need to know.  There are actually Youtube videos on how to hang clothes, fold sheets, etc.

As far as washing clothes, separate your whites from other colors, wash reds separately.  Pretreat stains.  Put the items in one at a time if you have a wringer washer so something won't get caught under the wringer and mashed.  Don't use too much soap (the least recommended amount is fine).  Use cooler water so clothes won't shrink.

As far as the dryer:  Use lower heat.  Heat shrinks items.  Remove the items when they're still a tiny bit damp.  Clothes should not be toasted.  If you live in a damp climate you may not need fabric softener at all.  I probably use 1/3 of a fabric softener sheet less than a dozen times a year.  Hang things up right away to keep them from wrinkling.  Don't forget to clean out the lint trap each time you use the dryer.  It will slow the air flow and might catch fire.

What I do is chuck them all in in-side out on a cold/cold setting on Normal wash cycle (couloured with whites) and mix the powder with water to make a liquid. If I need to use stain-remover, I'll either spray some Preen or put a lidful of Napi-san in. I haven't had the problem with reds bleeding, but had a blue collar run once.

I separate the laundry by type and color 1. whites and light colors 2. medium colors 3. red bright colors and black and dark blue dark colors unless some of the reds or darks are new or I know their colors run.  Then I would separate 3 into two loads of red and dark.  For the clothes in color category 3, I use Woolite wash for dark colors but for the others, I use Tide or Cheer for mine or my husband's clothes, or All Free and Clear for my daughter's laundry.

For stains, I have a variety of tools including OxiClean, Biz, Carbona stain remover, Undo, Off, Chlorox bleach pen, chlorine bleach, a variety of brands of stain sticks, a bar of FelsNaphtha, and many others.

I pretreat stains, put in the detergent with the clothes and fabric softener into the dispenser, start the machine and add the other clothes in the load, then add the pretreated stain clothes last.

In this very dry climate, I use fabric softener fairly often on clothing, but not on towels or cleaning cloths.

I hang up swimsuits, bras and panties rather than putting them in the dryer and if the clothing is all cotton, all linen, or something else that would need ironing, I put it into the dryer only long enough for it to get hot and de-wrinkled, then I hang it up on a wooden or plastic hanger, smooth it out, and let it finish drying on the clothesline so I won't have to iron it.  I try to remove the rest of the clothing from the dryer as soon as possible after it dries so it won't wrinkle and I hang it up.

Oh, and towels and sheets I always put in together, but separate from the normal clothes.

Usually get my home help to hang them on the line, unless it's raining and I hang them up inside.

Oh, by the way if you're using a powder laundry detergent, put it in first, let about 3 or 4 inches of water into the tub and swish the water around for about 3 or 4 seconds to make sure the powder is dissolved.  Undissolved powder will sometimes bleach the color out in spots on your clothes.  Also, be very careful of bleach.  When clothes have been bleached you cannot put the color back into them without re-dying the entire garment.

I bought white towels because it's easier to bleach them if needed.

I just throw all my clothes in the machine together, on the "warm" setting, and when they're done I throw them all in the dryer together, on "high,"
and when they're dry I pile them in my basket and take them back to my apartment. I hang up the cotton work shirts and the rest I don't care about.
I haven't ironed anything since 1990! So you see, even a slob like me can manage the laundry!  :roses:
