Hard on For Mathematics
« on: September 28, 2010, 04:20:54 PM »
Sweet Jesus, I am SICK of hearing about nerds.

My son is in the excellence class for mathematics at his high school. He is 15 and in grade 10. He complained that there were no friends in his class, "cause most of his friends are morons save for a couple who actually have their head on straight. He was also worried about the "nerd factor".

Now I know that kids want to fit in and stuff, hell, I probably tried to fit in in my own way at that age (didn't work though and so was made head of the Debating Team) and now my son calls me a nerd (affectionately, or I would knock his block off).

So when it was announced that my son being in the top 30% of his grade and in the Elite Fucker Mathematics, he also realise that he would have to do maths competitions. Yep, I am still listening to him but cannot detect the problem. The PROBLEM is that if he gets an award, it will be presented to him on Assembly, IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE SCHOOL!!!!!

Sweet Jesus, Mary and Joseph!!! There was only one way to fix it.

I told him that I would get a T-shirt made for him, "I got a Hard-On for Mathematics" that he could wear on assembly.

The look on his face was priceless :green: Kept me laughing for days. I haven't heard the "nerd word" for weeks.

Richard, you come out with some gem comments. Still laughing    But, aside from hilarity, I have to agree.

Cheers,

I love math nerds.

I obviously must, since my husband has a Ph. D. in mathematics.

One of Prince Albert's hobbies is teaching himself Calculus, which I think is quite an achievement to do yourself using only old textbooks.  So, yeah,

Math Nerds are Slide Rulers.

Well Prince Albert does try to keep his mind active.  As well as teaching himself calculus he's using Rosetta Stone to learn Russian.

Is Rosetta Stone expensive?  :orly:

Yes, but it is probably better than Berlitz.
