After months of listening with headphones I am finally hearing stereo without feeling like I want to throw up.

Do you have blocked ears, because of colds or allergies a lot?

Took me years to be able to listen to music with headphones. Keeping my fingers between my head and the headset, leaving a bit of room between ear and headset, helped a bit.

Any kind of headphones - buds or cups.  I gradually got over the problem by putting the phones slightly to one side of my ears.  I think it trained my brain to get used to the sound. 

Still can't hear stereo in real life though.

You get your noise-cancelling headphones.  You don't hear your wife telling you to buy lottery tickets and she's given you the winning numbers.

I'm with you on that one   I have had to wear other peoples ones before though briefly after I didn't feel right till after I showered

But can't you hear your own breathing when you wear them? I hate that. I find it more overstimulating than the noise that bugged me in the first place.

I had a pair I could still hear my breathing and even my heart faintly.  When overstimulated I like all my senses basically off for awhile, I wear hearing protection ear muffs used when shooting, pillows over my head for light and a weighted blanket over me
