Another one I like is this, it is paraphrased a bit:
Man's chief occupation is the extermination of other animals and his own species, which, however, multiplies with such insistent rapidity as to infest the whole habitable earth and Canada.

writing about Stockhausen led me to this little gem:

Sir Thomas Beecham was asked if he had ever conducted any Stockhausen.  he replied, "no, but i once trod in some."

i really, really wish i'd said that.  :laugh:
