I have heard of Born Again Christians being against psychiatric meds before I think. They don't seem to understand that a mental illness is still an illness, just like a physical one.
We got a little bit of psychiatry in our studies, and a chunk of psychology, so that we would recognise when to refer a church-member. And, to know a bit about what to do with those people spit out by the health system, out of psychiatric care, that went looking for some kind of care and warmth.
First thing over optimistic students got told was to never think faith could cure a mental illness.
But, have seen thoughts like that with an evangelical friend of mine. Thoughts like that are damaging, not only for mental health, also for the safety someone can find in the religious community. When faith is not enough to cure you, that will probably be a sign that your faith is not enough, or that god doesn't love you. So, damaging for that person in many ways. Even family may shun a patient. (And, some groups are the same when it comes to physical illnesses too, have seen it, and, I am quite easy going, but that has gotten me to loath some people for good)
