I have two opinions on cover versions - an original, enthusiastic or impassioned take on the original is a tribute, a thing of joy and is often better than the original. A commercial, bland, boring or pedestrian version of a song is often enough to make me apoplectic. Good covers: the previously mentioned Eight Miles High, 'Isolation' covered by Therapy?, 'Viva Las Vegas' covered by the Dead Kennedys, 'The Man Who Sold The World' covered by Nirvana. Really fucking bad covers: 'Under The Bridge' covered by All Saints, anything ever handed to a boy band to murder, every poxy assassination of the Smiths' classic 'How Soon Is Now' I've ever heard... I sense another topic coming on. *ahem*
