We have compulsory bicycle helmets for adults here.

I will never wear one, never.

compulsary auto insurance?

seat belt, helmet and insurance laws went into effect and i haven't seen a drop in my premiums, yet the insurance companies are raking it in.

Insurance companies are in the business of making money, not saving you money.

Reminds me of this song. It's a commie song but very true:

That's fine, doesn't mean they can make you wear a helmet. Just don't get caught, and when you do, pay the fine, or not.

Laws don't control people, they just spell out consequences.

There are no pigs where I go biking.

But if I get caught, I will do something similar to when I got that speed ticket.

Did you tell the police that you did that? Or are you not brave enough?

it would be nice if they were a business where we had a choice to buy their product.
Misunderstood.

I'm not a complete idiot. But anyway, the state lost about four times what they gained.

So really it's more like a tax then.

We have compulsory bicycle helmets for adults here.

Where I live, there are no helmet laws for adults on motorcycles but they are proposing bicycle helmet laws for children.

We've got seatbelt laws, helmet laws for bicycles/motorcycles, and laws against using mobile/cell phones in cars (hands free kits are okay I think).

Plus we have brutal road safety tv ads here.

Like Sweden, except that people over 14 don't have to wear bicycle helmets and that it's actually legal to use the mobile/cell phone while driving.

They show brutal car accident movies in the schools here, when the kids are in their lower teens.

a tax given to a private company.  sounds like anti trust.

it would be nice if they were a business where we had a choice to buy their product.

So really it's more like a tax then.
