I never suggested that you did. but if you set your options to hide your email address, then why is it useful for the forum software to display your own email address to only yourself?

The visibility of the email icon is permission-based. You always have the right to see your own email (and your other profile data) so it's visible to you. It should be possible to write something that hides it but if the only possible harm is that you accidentally email yourself, I can't be arsed.
