I wouldn't say no to a beer right now.

I wouldn't say no to a beer right now.

Beer for lunch? I think that would be quite acceptable in most circles. If it was breakfast time, many would frown down on me for that, unless I was fishing, before dawn. Then it would be OK to have a beer, that early.

It's not OK to have a strong beer for lunch in Sweden, at least not in most circles. In Germany and Austria it would be perfectly OK to have it for breakfast, at least when you're not about to work afterwards.

Holydays might be exceptions, though, even in Sweden.

Of course, work changes everything. No one, except a musician, is allowed to drink in the morning over here. I think it's Friday, though. Lunch beer and Friday afternoon work are often negotiable as long as you don't have to meet the public in the company's name, that is. It always works out if you can get the boss to buy the beer!

The "fun" thing is that it's perfectly acceptable to be drunk as a skunk on weekends here...and I mean really drunk, so that you puke. Even I have been there a few times, and I don't drink that much.

Most cities have a whole array of ordinances restricting drunkenness in public. Too many fucking Baptists in the mix.

You know why Catholics don't get drunk and fuck, standing up in a boat? The Baptists might think they were dancing. (Only drunks dance in public, ya know ... two very bad things from the Baptisit viewpoint!)

One more funny, but true, thing they do ... you may not have an establishment to sell alcohol within five hundred yards of a church, even if it's not a Baptist church, in most cities. The founding fathers granted us freedom of religion, but forgot to guarantee freedom from stupid religions
