comfort reading = brain candy = ian rankin, terry pratchett, crime/thriller/murder mysteries, the well-written end of women's fiction.  yep, i'm with you there.  sometimes, your brain just needs a rest.

am reading "the house of the spirits" by isabel allende, cos she's brilliant, and very funny, at times.  her book on food+sex - "aphrodite" - is marvellous.

My comfort reading is most stuff by Margaret Attwood, anything by Haruki Murakami or other favourites (Wuthering Heights, Gone with the wind, etc)- yes I am sad.

and i've never read GWTW, but that's the ort of thing i mean - ever read any Katie FForde?  You Will Cry.  it's soppy sopness, although well written, and i love it.

I haven't, any particular ones you'd recommend?

I've read GWTW loads of times- I love Scarlett  ;D  And living a stones throw away from Haworth I just had to have a soft spot from the Brontes :D

"Living Dangerously" - the most memorable line is... argh, i can't say, cos it's a spoiler.  info about pottery, too.
"The Rose Remains" - nice info about restoring boats.
oh, fuck it, i'm useless with titles - any of them, basically.

and marian keyes is great - shoes, handbags, glamorous (and expensive) clothes, and the heroine alwys gets to shag a really, really, gorgeous bloke.  fucking hilarious, sassy Irish women and their humour, too.
